Injury & Sickness Insurance
International students with F-1 student visa status are required to have insurance coverage in case of injury or sickness. The English Center has joined with the University of California Extension English Language and International Education Programs to provide excellent low cost coverage. Some features of this insurance coverage are:
Up to $250,000 lifetime benefit for each injury or sickness
100% coverage for…
- Hospital expenses
- Surgeon’s fees
- Doctor’s office visits
- Laboratory tests and x-ray examinations
- Medical emergency expenses
- Prescriptions
- Ambulance services
- And other services (see the booklet for details)
There is a $75 deductible for each injury or sickness, but the deductible may be waived if the student first visits the student health center (the Tang Center at UC Berkeley).
The cost of this insurance coverage is $22 per week (each week of study and each week of vacation between sessions). If the student is accompanied by dependents, the additional cost for dependent coverage is
- $59 per week for a spouse
- $25 per week for one child
- $50 per week for two or more children
If a student wishes to purchase insurance coverage in his or her home country, this coverage must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Minimum lifetime coverage of $180,000 per injury or sickness
- Coverage for the services mentioned above
- Policy and membership card in English
A student who wishes to waive the English Center insurance must do so in writing before arrival at Mills College.
